Thone

How Thone scaled to One market became four under Operator One as Merchant of Record.

A Dutch hearing-protection brand went from one home market to four countries on Amazon, with compliance, VAT, listings and advertising carried by one operation.

Thone
  • 4 countries

Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands

  • 1 marketplace

Amazon, four European storefronts, four languages

  • About 2.2x

Peak trading measured against the opening months

  • Full control

Official listings, buy box and pricing to the brand's rules

Markets

  • NETHERLANDS
  • GERMANY
  • FRANCE
  • UNITED KINGDOM
The challenge

What wasn't working on its own

Thone makes filtered earplugs people actually wear: roughly 20 to 26 dB off the volume, music still intelligible, click-on skins so protection reads as an accessory. Demand was never the problem. Reach was. One home market was open and the three biggest ones next door were not. Opening them meant PPE conformity per jurisdiction, VAT registrations and a full listing build in three more languages: months of administration for a small team whose real edge is acoustics and design.

The solution

What changed with O1

  • Market access went from one country to four, the Netherlands, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, opened as four storefronts in four languages without the brand setting up anything new abroad.
  • Registrations, VAT positions and fiscal representation were carried per market, including the separate United Kingdom position.
  • Conformity documentation and producer registrations were kept current per country, so no compliance gap could take a market offline.
  • Around 20 products were built once and localised into four languages, with official listings using the brand's own imagery and copy.
  • Advertising ran per storefront, the buy box was held, and the brand kept its inventory and its own pricing strategy.
  • At its peak the operation was running about 2.2 times its opening months.

The result

4 countries

Germany, the UK, France and the Netherlands, all on Amazon

Four countries trading from one operation, all on Amazon: Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. Listings are official, the buy box is held, and pricing follows the brand's own strategy. At its peak the operation was running about 2.2 times its opening months, and it is still running.

For brands like yours

What this means if you're a Hearing protection brand

Any brand with a certified product and one open market has this gap: the product is ready, the market access is not. Conformity files, VAT positions and producer registrations are per country, and they cost the same whether you sell a little or a lot there. Carry them once and the map opens.
