To sell on Kaufland France, you activate kaufland.fr in a Kaufland Global Marketplace seller account, publish your offers in French, and enter a French EPR unique identifier (IDU) for packaging and for every other EPR category you sell before those offers can go live. Kaufland.fr opened to shoppers on 12 August 2025, charges 7% to 16% commission by category plus one monthly fee from €39.95 plus VAT, and is not covered by Kaufland's GLS label service, so French orders ship cross-border with your own carrier or from stock held in France.
Key takeaways
- Kaufland.fr opened on 12 August 2025 as Kaufland's sixth marketplace country, with more than 3 million items and 2,800 sellers on board at launch.
- Kaufland.fr uses the same commission column as Kaufland.de: 7% to 16% by category, calculated on the gross sales price including delivery charges, plus VAT.
- Kaufland makes the French packaging IDU mandatory on Kaufland.fr and says an IDU usually takes up to 6 to 8 weeks once all documents are in.
- Kaufland's EPR Service switches on automatically during Kaufland.fr onboarding for sellers without their own IDUs and costs €1.90 per category per month, at most €15.20 across its 8 covered categories, plus eco-contributions at cost.
- Kaufland Shipment Solutions (KSS) ships only from Germany to Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, so it does not reach French customers.
- French online sales reached €196.4 billion in 2025, up 7%, with 42.2 million online shoppers, according to the French e-commerce federation, Fevad.

Kaufland.fr at launch: catalogue, sellers and payment
Kaufland.fr opened on 12 August 2025 with more than 3 million items across more than 6,400 categories, and 2,800 of Kaufland's 13,000 European marketplace sellers were already on board for France. By 2 September 2025 Kaufland put the French seller count at more than 3,000 and called France the third-largest e-commerce market in Europe.
Kaufland aims to grow Kaufland.fr towards the range of Kaufland.de, which listed 45 million items at the time, against around 3 million in France.
On Kaufland.fr, shoppers can pay by PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, invoice, instalments or credit card, and Kaufland's customer service answers them in French by hotline or contact form.
Where Kaufland.fr sits in French e-commerce
French e-commerce turned over €196.4 billion in 2025, up 7% on 2024, according to Fevad; product sales made up €76.1 billion and grew 4%. Fevad counts 42.2 million French online shoppers, 80% of people aged 16 to 74, and puts e-commerce at 12% of retail product sales. The average online basket fell 3% to €62.
Growth continued into 2026: Fevad reports €52.2 billion of French online sales in the second quarter of 2026, up 8.5%, and 6.6% growth across the first half. In Fevad's panel of leading sites, sport grew 16.2%, home textiles 12.2%, tech and household appliances 8.5% and beauty 7.4% in that quarter.
Kaufland.fr competes with established French marketplaces. Amazon.fr is covered in our Amazon France guide. Cdiscount now runs mostly as a marketplace: third-party sellers accounted for 67.1% of its product GMV in the first quarter of 2025, according to its parent company Cnova, and our Cdiscount guide explains its seller programme. Kaufland.fr adds a French storefront that runs from the same account as Kaufland.de; see our Kaufland France marketplace page.
French EPR on Kaufland.fr: the IDU check
Kaufland.fr checks French extended producer responsibility (EPR) before your offers go live, because French law makes the marketplace liable when a seller has not complied. Under Article L541-10-9 of the French Environmental Code, a marketplace escapes a third-party seller's EPR obligations only if it records proof of compliance, and the French ministry's marketplace FAQ (1 August 2022) states that an ADEME-issued unique identifier is that proof.
ADEME has required one unique identification number (IDU or UIN) per EPR scheme for every producer since 1 January 2022, and the IDU must appear in your general terms and conditions of sale. In a collective scheme, you get it by joining a producer responsibility organisation (PRO, or "éco-organisme").
According to Kaufland's EPR page for Kaufland.fr, you enter one IDU per EPR category under Shop settings, EPR compliance, once it shows in the ADEME register, and list your IDUs in your shop's legal notice. The packaging IDU is mandatory for every Kaufland.fr seller; Kaufland lists 18 French EPR categories in all, from electrical equipment and batteries to furniture, textiles, toys and DIY goods. A packaged electrical appliance with a battery, Kaufland's own example, needs three IDUs. The scheme-by-scheme detail is in our France EPR guide.
EPR Service by Kaufland in France
Kaufland's EPR Service supplies IDUs for sellers who have none, and on Kaufland.fr it activates automatically when you start onboarding without your own numbers. The France service terms (updated 11 September 2026) set out:
- Coverage of 8 categories, including electrical equipment, batteries, packaging, furniture, toys, and sport and leisure items; no numbers for chemicals, medical sharps, tobacco, lubricants or construction products.
- A fee of €1.90 per category per month, charged only in months with sales in that category, so at most €15.20 a month plus VAT, with eco-contributions passed on monthly at the official PRO rates.
- Switching the service off removes Kaufland's numbers and hides any offer without an IDU of your own.
The seller still handles EPR details on invoices, shipping-packaging labels, the repairability and durability indexes, and take-back terms.
Eco-participation, take-back and Triman labels
For furniture and electrical equipment sold in France, the eco-participation must be shown as a separate amount per item in the Kaufland.fr offer and on the invoice, using Kaufland's "eco_participation" field. Sellers in take-back categories such as electrical goods, batteries, furniture and toys must offer free take-back of a used product when a customer buys a new one, and describe it in their Kaufland.fr terms.
Every EPR product sold to French households, except glass beverage packaging, must carry the Triman logo with Info-tri sorting instructions under Article L541-9-3 of the Environmental Code. The French ministry's Triman FAQ (4 July 2023) lets the sorting information go digital only where the largest face of the product or packaging is under 20 cm², and the logo itself only below 10 cm².
Repairability and durability indexes
France requires a repairability score out of 10 on laptops, electric lawnmowers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners and pressure washers, and a durability score on televisions and washing machines, according to the French ecology ministry's repairability index page. Online, the score must appear next to the price on every page where the product can be bought. Kaufland.fr has attributes for the score and the calculation PDF, and Kaufland warns that missing index data can get offers hidden.
French-language rules for listings, labels and invoices
Kaufland.fr requires product data, customer communication and legal texts (terms and conditions, withdrawal policy, privacy policy and legal notice) in French and adapted to French law. Kaufland translates all three free of charge and asks sellers to review translated legal texts.
French law goes further. Article 2 of the Loi Toubon of 4 August 1994 makes French mandatory for the designation, offer, presentation, instructions for use and guarantee terms of a product, and for invoices and receipts, and the French culture ministry states that this applies to goods sold on online platforms. Kaufland's general guidance says invoices need not be in the national language; for France, plan on French invoices, manuals and on-pack information.
Shipping to France without KSS
Kaufland does not ship French orders for you. Fulfilment by Kaufland ended on 28 February 2025, and Kaufland Shipment Solutions only sells GLS labels from Germany to Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. A Kaufland.fr seller ships cross-border from another EU country under its own carrier contract, or holds stock in France.
- Delivery time is handling plus transport time in working days, and you are measured against your own window, so build cross-border transit into the shipping group.
- For French parcel lockers and parcel shops, Kaufland supports DHL, GLS and DPD, with a separate, usually lower, out-of-home shipping price.
- Kaufland adjusts delivery windows and ticket deadlines for the storefront country's public holidays and lists 11 French holidays for 2026; still ahead are Wednesday 11 November and Friday 25 December. A holiday at a German or Dutch warehouse does not extend a Kaufland.fr window.
- The returns address must be in the EU. Kaufland's automated DPD returns work on Kaufland.fr but only to addresses in Germany, and a return label may cost the customer at most €5.
Tracking, late-delivery and cancellation thresholds are the same on every storefront; our Kaufland fulfilment guide sets them out.
VAT on Kaufland.fr sales
France's standard VAT rate is 20%, with reduced rates of 10%, 5.5% and 2.1%. Kaufland asks EU sellers for an OSS number or a French VAT ID for Kaufland.fr. Once a seller's cross-border sales to EU consumers pass €10,000 a year, VAT is due in the customer's country and can be declared through the One-Stop Shop. Sales shipped from stock in France are domestic sales on a French VAT return, so holding stock in France normally means a French VAT registration; check your own set-up with a tax adviser.
What is the same on every Kaufland storefront
Onboarding, the fee model, customer-service deadlines and performance warnings work the same on Kaufland.fr as elsewhere; our Kaufland Global Marketplace guide covers them. Sponsored Product Ads run on Kaufland.fr with the usual €0.01 minimum bid, but Kaufland states that Sponsored Brand Ads are not yet available there; see our Kaufland advertising guide.
How to start selling on Kaufland France

How Operator One sells on Kaufland France for brands
Operator One is a Merchant of Record: on Kaufland.fr it is the legal seller, while the brand supplies the products, consigns the stock and receives the revenue. Operator One ships Kaufland.fr orders from its own fulfilment centres in Germany and the Netherlands and carries the seller's obligations on the storefront, including the EPR identifiers Kaufland.fr checks. EPR registrations are per country and per scheme and do not transfer between companies, so the set-up for each range is agreed up front. On VAT, Operator One files OSS and IOSS plus local registrations where it holds stock.
Kaufland.fr is one of more than 100 marketplaces in 28 countries that Operator One runs for brands. To see whether your range fits Kaufland France, book a call with our team.
