How to Sell on Kaufland Italy (kaufland.it) in 2026

Kaufland.it opened on 2 September 2025. Commission, Italian VAT, CONAI labelling, electrical and battery EPR, and shipping to Italy without KSS in 2026.

By Operator One Editorial, 5 October 2026

To sell on Kaufland Italy, you add kaufland.it as a sales channel in your Kaufland Global Marketplace account, publish Italian-language offers, and arrange the Italian EPR registrations your products need: CONAI for packaging, the Registro AEE for electrical goods and battery registration, through an authorised representative if you have no Italian office. Kaufland.it opened on 2 September 2025, charges 7% to 16% commission plus a monthly fee from €39.95 plus VAT, and is outside Kaufland's KSS label service, so orders ship with your own carrier.

Key takeaways

  • Kaufland.it opened on 2 September 2025 as Kaufland's seventh marketplace country, with 5 million items and nearly 3,000 sellers on board at launch.

Kaufland.it at launch, and what Kaufland promises sellers

Kaufland.it went live on 2 September 2025 with 5 million items in more than 6,400 categories, and with nearly 3,000 of Kaufland's 13,000 European sellers on board. Kaufland opened Italy three weeks after France; when it announced both in April 2025, it called them Europe's third- and fourth-largest e-commerce markets.

In the Italy launch release, Kaufland said sellers active on all its storefronts generate on average an extra 50% of their Kaufland.de revenue, a claim across all storefronts rather than an Italy forecast. Kaufland named electronics and computers (24%) and garden and DIY (20%) as its most successful marketplace categories in 2024.

The Italian online market Kaufland.it is entering

Italian B2C e-commerce is forecast to pass €66.6 billion in 2026, up 6%, according to the Netcomm and Politecnico di Milano observatory (6 May 2026). Products account for €42.6 billion, and online now takes 11.5% of Italian retail product spending. The observatory counts 35 million digital consumers in Italy, with an average age of 48.

For 2025, the observatory estimated Italian online sales of computers and consumer electronics at €8.9 billion, 43% of all spending in that category, with the highest average ticket at €210. Home and living reached €4.7 billion (20% online), clothing €6.2 billion (18% online), and beauty and pharma €3.1 billion, growing 7%. That makes electronics, Kaufland's strongest category, Italy's most mature online segment.

Online buying is also uneven across the country. Italy's national statistics office ISTAT reports that 49% of people aged 14 and over bought online in the 12 months before its 2025 survey, with 53.3% in the North against 41% in the South. Payment habits differ too: according to Netcomm, digital wallets are the most used online payment method at 33.9%, ahead of credit cards at 28.6%.

Amazon says about 20,000 Italian small and medium-sized businesses sell through its store, with more than €4 billion in sales in 2025; our Amazon Italy guide covers that channel.

Italian EPR on Kaufland.it: what Kaufland checks and what the law requires

Kaufland's own pages differ on whether Kaufland.it asks for EPR numbers. Its seller registration page (7 September 2026) says no EPR information has to be entered to sell on Kaufland.it, while its EPR Service page for Italy (14 September 2026) says selling on Kaufland.it includes providing an EPR number for each category, so confirm the current requirement with Kaufland seller support. Italian law applies either way. Producers and users of packaging take part in CONAI under Article 221 of Legislative Decree 152/2006, and producers of electrical equipment register in the national RAEE register under Article 29 of Legislative Decree 49/2014, both in force today. Since 12 August 2026, Article 45(4) of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation also requires online platforms to obtain a producer's packaging EPR registration details and a self-certification before letting it sell to EU consumers.

Kaufland's Italy EPR page lists the registrations a seller needs:

  • Packaging (CONAI). Domestic and foreign sellers placing packaging on the Italian market register with CONAI and pay its environmental contribution.
  • Electrical equipment. Sellers register in the Registro AEE, the Italian WEEE register, and offer free 1:1 take-back of a similar old appliance, described in their Kaufland.it terms.
  • Batteries. Sellers of batteries, or products containing them, register as battery producers.
  • Authorised representative. A seller with no office or branch in Italy needs an authorised representative to carry out its EPR registrations; Article 45(3) of the same EU regulation also requires one for packaging sold directly to consumers in another member state.

Our Italy EPR guide covers the registers, deadlines and fines.

EPR Service by Kaufland in Italy

Kaufland's EPR Service in Italy supplies EPR numbers and handles reporting, but unlike in France it stays off until you switch it on under Shop settings, EPR compliance. Kaufland's terms:

  • It covers packaging, electrical equipment (RAEE) and batteries, not tyres, polyethylene products or mineral oils; sellers with a registered office in Italy must register packaging themselves.
  • It costs €1.90 per category per month in which that category has sales, so at most €5.70 a month plus VAT.
  • For packaging, Kaufland calculates the eco-contribution as a percentage of the total price: 0.17% for food and 0.09% for non-food products.
  • Eco-contributions are passed on monthly at official rates without a surcharge, calculated from your product data, so a missing weight can raise the fee.

The service does not cover EPR information on Italian invoices, labelling of your shipping packaging, or take-back terms in your Kaufland.it conditions.

Environmental labelling on packaging (etichettatura ambientale)

All packaging released for consumption in Italy needs environmental labelling, an obligation introduced by Legislative Decree 116 of 3 September 2020, with national guidelines adopted by Ministerial Decree 360 of 28 September 2022, according to CONAI's labelling platform. Kaufland lists the content:

  • the material code for each separable component, in the alphanumeric format of Commission Decision 97/129/EC;
  • a collection instruction, such as separate collection for plastic;
  • advice to check local municipal sorting rules.

Small packaging can carry it digitally, for example by QR code. CONAI states that the current Italian format can be kept until 11 August 2028, after which harmonised EU pictogram labels under Article 12 of the Packaging Regulation take over.

Italian-language listings and consumer information

Kaufland.it requires product data, customer communication and legal texts (terms and conditions, withdrawal policy, privacy policy and legal notice) in Italian and adapted to Italian law. Kaufland translates all three free of charge.

Italian law sets the floor. Article 9 of the Italian Consumer Code (Legislative Decree 206 of 6 September 2005) requires all information for consumers to be given at least in Italian, and where it appears in several languages, the Italian text must be at least as visible and legible as the others. Plan Italian labels and instructions as well as the listing.

Shipping to Italy: carriers, delivery times and holidays

No Kaufland logistics service reaches Italy. The GLS labels sold through Kaufland Shipment Solutions cover only routes from Germany to Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and Fulfilment by Kaufland closed on 28 February 2025, so every Kaufland.it parcel travels under your own carrier contract.

  • Kaufland puts the average expected delivery time in Italy at 4 days. Delivery time is handling plus transport time in working days.
  • For Italian parcel lockers and parcel shops, Kaufland supports DHL, GLS and DPD, with a separate, usually lower, out-of-home price. With 21.9% of Italian online purchases delivered out of home, it is worth setting up.
  • Kaufland adjusts delivery windows and ticket deadlines for the storefront country's public holidays and lists 11 Italian holidays for 2026. Still ahead are Tuesday 8 December (Immaculate Conception), Friday 25 December and Saturday 26 December. German holidays Italy does not observe, such as Ascension Day, do not extend Kaufland.it windows.
  • Returns must go to an address inside the EU; Kaufland's automated DPD return labels can be enabled for Kaufland.it but route only to German addresses, and cost the customer no more than €5.

Kaufland applies the same tracking, late-delivery and cancellation thresholds in Italy as elsewhere; see our Kaufland fulfilment guide.

VAT on Kaufland.it sales

Kaufland.it sales carry Italian VAT at a standard 22%, with reduced rates of 10%, 5% and 4%, and Kaufland needs either your OSS number or an Italian VAT ID for the channel. EU rules move VAT to the customer's country once your cross-border consumer sales in the EU exceed €10,000 a year, declarable through the One-Stop Shop. Goods dispatched from an Italian warehouse are domestic Italian sales for an Italian VAT return, which normally requires an Italian VAT registration; confirm the set-up with a tax adviser.

Made in Italy: Kaufland's route for Italian brands into Germany

Kaufland's Made in Italy campaign, run with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Italian foreign ministry, promotes certified Italian products on Kaufland.de (page updated 26 March 2026). ITA certification is free and open only to companies registered in Italy; participants pay no basic fee and get a €25 Sponsored Product Ads discount for three months; product data must be in German.

What is the same on every Kaufland storefront

Kaufland.it follows the network-wide rules for onboarding, fees, ticket deadlines and performance warnings, covered in our Kaufland Global Marketplace guide and on our Kaufland Italy marketplace page. For advertising, Sponsored Product Ads (minimum bid €0.01) are available on Kaufland.it, while Kaufland does not yet offer Sponsored Brand Ads there, as our Kaufland advertising guide explains.

How to start selling on Kaufland Italy

  1. Map your Italian EPR streams. List which products bring packaging, electrical equipment or batteries into Italy, and appoint an authorised representative if you have no Italian office.
  2. Choose your EPR route on Kaufland.it. Enter your own EPR numbers under EPR compliance, or switch on Kaufland's EPR Service for packaging, electrical equipment and batteries.
  3. Settle your VAT route for Italy. Enter your OSS number, or an Italian VAT ID if you hold stock in Italy or do not use the OSS.
  4. Publish Italian product data and legal texts. Translate and review them, and add take-back terms for electrical goods.
  5. Check your packaging labels. Make sure each separable component carries its material code and a collection instruction in Italian.
  6. Set up an Italy shipping group. Choose a carrier, aim for the 4-day expectation, add an out-of-home price, and plan around Italian holidays.

How Operator One sells on Kaufland Italy for brands

On Kaufland.it, Operator One acts as Merchant of Record: it is the legal seller, and the brand consigns the products and receives the revenue. Orders leave from Operator One's own fulfilment centres in Germany and the Netherlands, and Operator One carries the seller's obligations on the storefront, including the EPR registrations Kaufland.it asks for. Because EPR registrations are per country and per stream and do not transfer between companies, Operator One arranges a local authorised representative where Italy requires one. For VAT, it files OSS and IOSS plus local registrations where it holds stock.

Kaufland.it sits among the more than 100 marketplaces in 28 countries that Operator One runs for brands. To check whether your range suits Kaufland Italy, talk to our team.
