zooplus Marketplace is an application-only marketplace for pet brands, live in Germany and France. You apply, zooplus reviews you, and you ship every order yourself. This guide covers how to get on, what it costs, and what you need in place before your first order.

Operator One now sells on zooplus Marketplace in Germany and France. Brands that work with us can reach zooplus customers in both markets without setting up a German or French company or running the application themselves.

Where zooplus Marketplace is live
zooplus runs its marketplace in two countries: France, which came first, and Germany, which launched on 5 August 2026.
- France: the first zooplus marketplace. zooplus says it "has tripled selection for French customers".
- Germany: launched with about 10,000 new products, 65% of them pet accessories.
zooplus runs online shops in "more than 27 European countries", but that is its retail business, not its marketplace. Each marketplace storefront is national: a French partner sells to French customers. zooplus says more countries will follow "over the coming years".
How to get onto zooplus Marketplace
You cannot sign up and start listing. zooplus approves every partner in four steps:
- Apply. Fill in the application form on the German, French or .com seller page.
- Internal review. A zooplus team reviews your application "to assess your potential".
- Video call. If the review goes well, a video call with zooplus follows.
- Build your storefront. You receive a Mirakl link to set up your shop and import products.
zooplus says going live takes about 7 days depending on catalogue size, but marks that figure as still to be confirmed. It publishes no acceptance criteria and no approval rate.

- France only: your own General Terms of Sale, Right of Withdrawal and Privacy Policy, in French, as PDFs

What zooplus Marketplace costs
zooplus does not publish a commission rate. Commission is agreed per partner during onboarding, and any percentage quoted online does not come from zooplus.
What zooplus does publish:
- Commission base: selling price plus shipping cost, excluding VAT. Shipping revenue is commissionable.
- Monthly fee: there is one, amount not published, and the first 3 months are free.
- Setup fee: not mentioned either way. Ask in writing.
- Invoicing: one commission invoice per month, covering all orders plus the monthly fee.
- VAT on commission: zooplus's English and French pages contradict each other. Get it confirmed in your contract.
How you get paid
zooplus collects customer payments through Adyen and pays you weekly. Each order's money is held for 21 days after shipping to cover refunds. Plan your cash flow on the 21-day hold, not on the weekly cycle.
Customers can pay by credit card or PayPal.
Shipping: you fulfil every order
zooplus offers no warehousing or fulfilment for marketplace sellers. Every order goes from your stock straight to the customer, and pet food is heavy, so your cost per parcel matters most.
- Ship within 2 business days, with a tracking number.
- Set your own shipping price, or offer free shipping.
- Upload the customer invoice to Mirakl when you ship. zooplus emails it to the customer.
- No pickup points yet. zooplus says they are planned.
Returns and customer service
Customers get at least 14 days to return, with a free return label on request and a full refund including delivery. The seller pays for returns within that 14-day window.
Customers contact zooplus first. zooplus then opens a case in Mirakl, and you agree the solution with the customer there.
Who the seller is on zooplus
zooplus is not the seller. Its German terms (Article 16) say the purchase contract is made directly between the customer and the marketplace partner. zooplus is only the platform host.
That means the company that sells on zooplus carries the consumer contract, VAT and the packaging registrations. It is a seller's job, not the marketplace's.
Listings and integration
- Language: German listings for Germany, French for France.
- Prices: you set them.
- Search ranking: based on how well your title, description and product data match the search.
- Listing guidelines: only visible in your seller account once approved.
zooplus runs on Mirakl. You can connect in four ways: the Mirakl Connector (for example from Shopify), a direct API connection, an aggregator, or manual upload by form, CSV or XLS. The technical documentation is only available on request, so ask for it early.
Compliance checklist for pet products
Pet food is regulated as animal feed, and zooplus checks packaging registrations. Before you apply, check these.
Products zooplus does not allow
- Biocidal products, such as pesticides and disinfectants
- CBD oil (on the English list, not the French one)
- Live animals and live insects
- Electric shock collars and shock-based training equipment
- Products from endangered or protected species
- Pharmacy products (a temporary block, according to zooplus)
EU feed law for pet food
- Labelling: Regulation (EC) No 767/2009, Article 19, requires a free phone number or similar contact on pet food labels.
- Feed hygiene: Regulation (EC) No 183/2005, Article 9(2), requires feed businesses to register their establishments with the authority.
- Animal by-products: under Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009, pet food plants must be approved in advance (Article 24).
- Medicated feed: since 28 January 2022, Regulation (EU) 2019/4 requires a veterinary prescription.
Packaging registration (EPR)
- Germany: registration in the LUCID packaging register. Since 1 July 2022 marketplaces may only list sellers who are registered, so zooplus.de has to check it.
- France: an identifiant unique (IDU) from ADEME for each EPR stream you fall under, required since 1 January 2022. zooplus asks for it at onboarding.
