Operator's guide

Selling on Amazon Spain: the operator's view

Facts sourced from the marketplace's own documentation and from regulators, written in our voice — no marketing fluff.

What it is

Amazon Spain (amazon.es) is the leading marketplace in Iberia and the natural distribution lane for brands targeting Spain, the Canaries and (via cross-border) Portugal. Buyer behaviour skews younger and more mobile than Germany or the UK.

Who sells well here

Beauty, home, fashion accessories, baby, supplements and consumer electronics see strong velocity. Brands without Spanish-language listings or without a properly-declared Responsible Person sit at the bottom of search; brand-registered, Prime-eligible listings tend to dominate buy-box.

How selling works

Standard 3P FBM / FBA-ES, with Pan-EU pulling stock into Spanish FCs by default. Spanish content is enforced — Castilian Spanish for the .es locale. The .es store is the gateway for the Portuguese market via cross-border Prime.

Compliance & fiscal picture

Spanish VAT is required for stock held locally; OSS covers cross-border B2C from another EU base. Spain operates EPR streams through Ecoembes (packaging), Ecolec / Ecoasimelec / Ecotic (EEE), and ERP / Ecopilas (batteries); a SCRAP contract is mandatory before placing products on the Spanish market. GPSR Responsible Person obligations apply; the Canaries introduce a separate IGIC tax regime distinct from VAT.

What O1 actually does here

O1 holds the Spanish VAT, the Ecoembes / EEE / Battery registrations, and the GPSR Responsible Person designation as your Merchant of Record. Spanish-language listings are generated from your master catalogue in the O1 Suite. Fulfilment uses FBA-ES or direct-ship from our EU 3PL.

Common gotchas

  • Canary Islands shipments use IGIC, not VAT — your dispatch carrier needs separate customs handling for IC orders.
  • Ecoembes packaging EPR is mandatory and payment-bound — non-payment can trigger a national withdrawal order via AESAN.
  • Spanish-language content must be Castilian; LATAM Spanish copy gets demoted and customer-service complaints rise.
  • Cosmetics CPNP and food-supplement AESAN notifications must clear before listing — Amazon Spain enforces against the national register.
  • Iberian B2B Amazon Business has separate VAT-clearance flows; OSS does not apply to B2B.

Why brands work with O1 on this channel

Spain's EPR + AESAN landscape rewards operational discipline. We carry the registrations, the SCRAP contracts and the Responsible Person designation under one MoR contract — same pattern as our other Amazon EU locales. Walk through how we work.

How we list your brand on Amazon Spain

The same three-step path we run for every brand: same contract, same ~30-day timeline, no surprises.

  1. Step 01
Catalogue handover into the O1 Suite

You ship product data, EAN/GTIN, images and stock; we map it to the marketplace's listing schema inside the Suite.

  2. Step 02
We open and operate the seller account

We register VAT, EPR and GPSR as the legal seller on Amazon Spain; you don't sign anything in-country.

  3. Step 03
Live orders → one monthly settlement

Your listings go live, orders flow into the O1 Suite, returns and customer support sit with us. You receive one consolidated monthly settlement.

Amazon Spain: Common questions

Can Operator One list my brand on Amazon Spain?

If we operate a live seller account on Amazon Spain (look for the 'Live' status pill on this page), yes. We onboard your catalogue under our Merchant of Record entity and you go live on the standard ~30-day onboarding timeline. Where the status is 'On request', we confirm fit and timeline on a discovery call first.

Do I need a separate seller account on Amazon Spain?

No. Operator One holds the Amazon Spain seller account under our MoR entity. You sign one master agreement with us; there is no separate marketplace contract for you to sign or manage.

Who handles VAT, compliance and returns on Amazon Spain?

We do. As Merchant of Record, Operator One is the party on the consumer invoice, so VAT collection, EPR, EPR registrations, DAC7 reporting (GPSR Responsible Person sits with O1 when we are your Importer of Record) and returns processing all sit with us, not with your brand.

How is Amazon Spain commission billed to me?

Marketplace commission, fulfilment fees, advertising spend and our service fee flow into a single consolidated monthly settlement statement. We share the full per-marketplace P&L for your catalogue on the discovery call.

Can I be exclusive on Amazon Spain?

Amazon Spain is one channel inside your O1 mix, and you keep the call on where else your brand sells. If you want Amazon Spain to be the only marketplace we run for you, we can scope the engagement that way; if you later want to add others, the same O1 entity covers them under the same master agreement.

How is buy-box or repricing handled on Amazon Spain?

Where Amazon Spain runs a buy-box-style mechanic, O1 Suite tracks the winner status and price gap per SKU and we repricer on rules you sign off on, not opaque automation. Where there's no buy-box, the pricing rules apply on top of the marketplace's own pricing logic instead.
