Selling on Kaufland Germany: the operator's view

Facts sourced from the marketplace's own documentation and from regulators, written in our voice — no marketing fluff.

What it is

Kaufland Global Marketplace (formerly Real.de) is the largest non-Amazon generalist marketplace in Germany, with growing reach into CZ, SK, AT, PL, IT and FR via a single seller account. Owned by the Schwarz Group (Lidl, Kaufland retail).

Who sells well here

Home, garden, toys, sports, baby and food sell strongly. Kaufland competes on price discovery and rewards aggressive promo participation. Brands that already run Amazon DE and Otto find Kaufland adds incremental household-name reach for relatively low operational lift.

How selling works

Pure 3P, no Kaufland-owned fulfilment in DE — sellers dispatch themselves or via 3PL. Listing entry is straightforward; sales commission is category-based (typically 7–16% in DACH; 4–12% on .pl) plus a monthly seller fee (~€39.95 basic). Cross-border to KL CZ / SK / AT / IT / FR / PL is enabled from one onboarding.

Compliance & fiscal picture

German VAT (or OSS), LUCID, WEEE-stiftung-ear, BattG and GPSR Responsible Person all apply — same stack as Amazon DE, enforced at listing creation. Kaufland blocks listings without a verified LUCID number. For cross-border to CZ / SK / IT / FR / PL the OSS regime simplifies B2C VAT, but EPR per country may still be required depending on category.

What O1 actually does here

O1 operates Kaufland from our DACH seller account with the full DE compliance stack already in place and the cross-border country additions activated. Fulfilment runs from our DE 3PL; in many cases brands already on Bol or Amazon under O1 add Kaufland with no extra onboarding effort. Brand activation is the standard O1 Suite catalogue handover.

Common gotchas

  • LUCID number verification is enforced at listing time — Kaufland syncs against the official register.
  • Cross-border activation per country still requires the per-country EPR stack (Triman + CITEO for FR, BDO for PL, etc.).
  • No Kaufland-owned FBA — your 3PL operation is your delivery promise.
  • Promo participation matters: visibility on Kaufland is heavily promo-driven, more than on Amazon.
  • Returns are seller-managed end-to-end; no centralised Kaufland returns facility.

Why brands work with O1 on this channel

Kaufland is one of the easiest 'add-on' marketplaces once your DACH compliance stack is in place — and that's exactly what we already run. See the MoR model and our onboarding sequence.

How we list your brand on Kaufland Germany

The same three-step path we run for every brand: same contract, same ~30-day timeline, no surprises.

  1. Step 01
Catalogue handover into the O1 Suite

You ship product data, EAN/GTIN, images and stock; we map it to the marketplace's listing schema inside the Suite.

  2. Step 02
We open and operate the seller account

We register VAT, EPR and GPSR as the legal seller on Kaufland Germany; you don't sign anything in-country.

  3. Step 03
Live orders → one monthly settlement

Your listings go live, orders flow into the O1 Suite, returns and customer support sit with us. You receive one consolidated monthly settlement.

Kaufland Germany: Common questions

Can Operator One list my brand on Kaufland Germany?

If we operate a live seller account on Kaufland Germany (look for the 'Live' status pill on this page), yes. We onboard your catalogue under our Merchant of Record entity and you go live on the standard ~30-day onboarding timeline. Where the status is 'On request', we confirm fit and timeline on a discovery call first.

Do I need a separate seller account on Kaufland Germany?

No. Operator One holds the Kaufland Germany seller account under our MoR entity. You sign one master agreement with us; there is no separate marketplace contract for you to sign or manage.

Who handles VAT, compliance and returns on Kaufland Germany?

We do. As Merchant of Record, Operator One is the party on the consumer invoice, so VAT collection, EPR, EPR registrations, DAC7 reporting (GPSR Responsible Person sits with O1 when we are your Importer of Record) and returns processing all sit with us, not with your brand.

How is Kaufland Germany commission billed to me?

Marketplace commission, fulfilment fees, advertising spend and our service fee flow into a single consolidated monthly settlement statement. We share the full per-marketplace P&L for your catalogue on the discovery call.

Can I be exclusive on Kaufland Germany?

Kaufland Germany is one channel inside your O1 mix, and you keep the call on where else your brand sells. If you want Kaufland Germany to be the only marketplace we run for you, we can scope the engagement that way; if you later want to add others, the same O1 entity covers them under the same master agreement.

How is buy-box or repricing handled on Kaufland Germany?

Where Kaufland Germany runs a buy-box-style mechanic, O1 Suite tracks the winner status and price gap per SKU and we repricer on rules you sign off on, not opaque automation. Where there's no buy-box, the pricing rules apply on top of the marketplace's own pricing logic instead.
